The 9:12 text
After twenty years spent keeping people and properties safe, Chad thought he understood preparation. Then he became a host. The cabin was ready — beds made, firewood stacked, coffee stocked. At 9:12 on a Friday night, the phone lit up anyway: “Hi! What’s the Wi-Fi password?” Saturday brought the hot tub. Sunday, checkout time.
Good guests, fair questions — and every one of them a small failure of communication, not hospitality. The house was prepared. The stay wasn’t.
